What to do next
How to get a written prescription
- 1 Ask at your next consultation. Your vet must agree — it's your legal right under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
- 2 Pay the prescription fee. Maximum £21 for the first medicine, £12.50 for each additional medicine from the same consultation.
- 3 Order from an accredited pharmacy. Look for the VMD (Veterinary Medicines Directorate) logo. Delivery is usually 1–3 working days.
- 4 Ask for a longer prescription. Some prescriptions cover up to 6 months, which spreads the fee further and increases your savings.
